Can I rent a car?

Your personal auto insurance coverages carries over to your rented car. Even if it is from a private rental company (Turo, etc). If you have “full coverage” on your personal vehicle, you have it on your rental car. What is not covered is the rental car company’s “Loss of Use”. This is what a rental company could have made from that vehicle if it wasn’t damaged. If you’re in an accident with a rental car, and it is undrivable, the rental company could charge you for the time it is in the repair shop.

Review your auto insurance coverage before taking a road trip.

If you plan on taking a road trip, it's a good idea to review your auto insurance coverage. Make sure you have enough coverage for liability, collision, and comprehensive. You may also want to consider adding roadside assistance coverage, which can come in handy if you experience car trouble on the road.
